About me

I specialize in the application of mathematics, computers and statistics to ecological and other environmental problems, especially to the conservation of biological diversity.

My current interests are the development of ecological community models to describe extinction debt. I am also interested in the phenomenon of long-range dependence, including its application to population time series and global temperature changes. I like to use fractal statistics in this and other areas.

This web-page describes my research, teaching and other activities at the University of Ioannina. Here you can find my scientific papers here along with links to interesting websites. You can also download some of the programs I have written.

Long-term research

  • The dynamics of extinction
  • 1/f-noise and ecology
  • Hyper-exponential growth as an ecological process
  • Conservation value of sacred forests

Current and new research themes

  • The Ecology of orchids
